University of Fredericton and Columbia Southern University create Academic Pathway to provide bachelor-level online OHS education to UFred students
Fredericton, November 1, 2022 – Occupational health and safety (OHS) education is critical to ensuring that safety practitioners have the knowledge and tools needed to create safer workplaces. To continue addressing the heightened need for advanced education in the OHS field, the University of Fredericton (UFred) is pleased to announce a new Academic Pathway with Columbia Southern University (CSU) that will provide UFred OHS students with the opportunity to seamlessly transfer their program credits from the UFred Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety to the CSU Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health.
“Lifelong learning is a foundational pillar of UFred’s academic philosophy,” said Dr. Sheri McKillop, Vice President of Academics at UFred, “we are very pleased with the enhanced learning opportunities that are now available to UFred OHS students through the CSU Academic Pathway.”
CSU is an online university based in Orange Beach, Alabama, that offers several degree programs in the field of OHS. CSU’s safety degree programs have been recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as Qualified Academic Programs (QAPs). QAP graduates may apply for the Graduate Safety Practitioner® designation. Holders of this designation may bypass the Associate Safety Professional (ASP®) exam prior to taking the Certified Safety Professional (CSP®) exam.
“We are thrilled to work with University of Fredericton to offer this opportunity to students who want to continue their education journey,” said Ken Styron, DBA, President of CSU. “As a university that was founded to provide accessible, affordable higher education for working professionals, we feel this agreement will increase their options for success by building on their skills and talents.”
Through the CSU Academic Pathway, students and alumni of the UFred Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety may be eligible to transfer as many as 33 credits toward CSU’s bachelor’s in OSH, effectively halving the number of courses UFred students must take to achieve their bachelor’s degree at CSU. UFred students and graduates also receive a 10% tuition discount at CSU and may qualify for exclusive scholarship opportunities.
“UFred students who choose to take advantage of the CSU academic pathway will be able to build on the foundational knowledge obtained in their Associate Degree, delving deeper into topics they’ve been introduced to and forming new knowledge in applied areas relevant to the OHS profession today.” – Dr. Sheri McKillop, Vice President of Academics at UFred
