University of Fredericton announces new Program Chair, Business

The University of Fredericton (UFred) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amna Khaliq as its Program Chair, Business.

 

Dr. Khaliq brings more than a decade of teaching experience at universities and colleges across Canada. Her background includes McMaster University, Cape Breton University, Northern Lights College, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and UFred. She currently teaches Principles of Management in our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Associate Degree in Business Administration (ADBA) programs. We are so thrilled to welcome her to an expanded position at UFred.

Welcoming Dr. Amna Khaliq

Known for her impressive academic background, Dr. Khaliq’s career has been defined by both scholarly achievement and meaningful real-world impact.


Dr. Khaliq holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership from California Southern University, with magna cum laude, an MBA in Community Economic Development from Cape Breton University and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor. She also completed a Provincial Instructor Diploma program at Vancouver Community College and an Online Learning Certificate from the University of Toronto. 

Her enthusiasm for growth and innovation extends into her leadership philosophy — one that prioritizes relevance and connection.


“I am honoured to step into this expanded role and continue building on the strong foundation of UFred’s business programs,” said Dr. Khaliq. “My focus is on creating learning experiences that are practical, engaging and relevant to the real challenges students face in their workplaces.

A passion for lifelong learning

Dr. Khaliq has continued to advance her expertise through global professional development opportunities.


She received the Women’s Leadership Development Programme Certificate from Oxford University, empowering women to become confident, strategic leaders.


At Harvard University, she earned the Leaders of Learning Certificate, which focuses on helping educators identify and develop their personal learning philosophies and apply them to the evolving landscape of education.

Sharing knowledge on the global stage

Dr. Khaliq has presented at many international conferences, with a research focus on economic development, strategic leadership and the advancement of online education. She has more than ten publications in different conference proceedings and journals, including presentations at:

  • The International Academic Forum in Japan 

  • The Future of Education in Italy 

  • The Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) in Australia 

  • The Canadian Economic Association in Canada 

  • The Association for Language and Literacy Education (ARLE) and the International Federation for Teacher Education (IFTE) conference in Australia 

She has also contributed to several think tanks, curriculum, and policy committees, helping shape educational and organizational strategies. Beyond academia, she has conducted financial literacy seminars, empowering students with essential life and career skills. 

Published works and thought leadership

Dr. Khaliq is widely published in double-blind, peer-reviewed and Scopus-indexed journals. She has written a book chapter for the University of Famagusta in Cyprus and contributes articles for McMaster University on how digital transformation, artificial intelligence and strategic online learning are reshaping business and education.


She is currently working on publishing her own book based on her doctoral research, titled Knowledge and Innovation: The Business of Online Education in Canada.

Leading the way by giving back

Dr. Khaliq has served on numerous boards and advisory committees that guide the future of online and strategic business education. As a board member of the Cape Breton University Alumni Association, she was recognized as the youngest recipient of the Darrell Flynn Alumni Award for her sustained commitment to community service and engagement.


She has also contributed as a board director for the South Peace Community Resources Society for over three years and served as Vice Chair of the Dawson Creek Literacy Society for seven years.


Her volunteer work spans a variety of causes. Through the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), she helped bring refugee students (mostly from Africa) to Canada. Her work across these organizations reflects a strong dedication to advancing education, economic empowerment, poverty reduction, homelessness prevention and support for individuals affected by domestic violence and those with diverse abilities.

A world of diverse perspectives

When she is not teaching, Dr. Khaliq is often traveling. She has explored 40 countries across six continents, gaining stories along the way that enrich her teaching.

“Travel has taught me the value of perspective,” she said. “Every new culture and experience helps me bring forward fresh ideas. That’s one reason I encourage students to think about business through a global lens.
