The University of Fredericton seeking academic teaching and excellence award nominations

The UFred Academic Teaching and Excellence Award endeavours to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding faculty members who exemplify teaching excellence, unwavering dedication to student success, and meaningful contributions to the academic community. The Academic Teaching and Excellence Award will be presented annually during the virtual annual convocation ceremony.


The deadline to submit nominations will be March 8th, 2024.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Excellence in teaching: The nominee must demonstrate outstanding teaching abilities, including a mastery of course content, effective communication skills, and innovative teaching strategies.

  • Commitment to student success: The nominee must demonstrate a commitment to the success of their students, including providing individualized support and mentorship.

  • Contribution to the community: The nominee must have made significant contributions to the academic community by participating in outreach programs, engaging in community service, and providing expertise to local organizations.

  • The nominee must be a senior faculty member at the University of Fredericton. A senior faculty member has taught a minimum of 7 courses with UFred.

Nomination Process:

  • Students, colleagues, and other members of the UFred community are welcome to submit nominations. Additionally, faculty members have the option to self-nominate if they wish to be considered for the award.

  • Nominations must be submitted using the prescribed Academic Teaching and Excellence Award Nomination Form.

  • A Selection Committee will reach out to the chosen nominees to schedule interviews.

The Selection Committee shall be comprised of:

  • The Dean (or designate)

  • The Academic Chair (or designate)

  • The Registrar (or designate)

  • Two UFred staff members

Selection will be based on the fulfillment of the nomination criteria and quality of interview. Following the interviews, the Selection Committee will engage in deliberations to reach a consensus for the final selection. If a consensus cannot be reached, the decision will be made through a majority vote.


Following the interviews, candidates will be notified of the Selection Committee’s decision within two weeks, at minimum one month prior to convocation.
