What is an Associate Degree?

An Associate Degree is an academic degree program taken at the undergraduate level. It aims to give students the basic and technical academic knowledge and skills required to translate to employment-ready workforce skills or to transfer to a bachelor-level program.

Course structure & details

The courses offered in this program are based on independent learning – you decide when to study during the week, and there are no classes to attend. However, you will be required to meet assignment deadlines and finish your courses on time.


In the AOHS program, you’ll take courses that cover the best practices identified by OHS professionals from a wide range of jurisdictions and legislative backgrounds.

Your road to CRST/CRSP certification

if you’re looking to become a certified Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), this program offers a pathway to fulfilling the requirements set by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals:


Complete the 2-year Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (AOHS) program and be eligible to take the CRST certification examination upon graduation.

The University of Fredericton is a degree-granting university offering an online Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (AOHS) under Section 3 of the Degree Granting Act of the Province of New Brunswick in Canada.


The AOHS program offered through UFred's School of Occupational Health and Safety is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of ABET and has been fully accredited by the Province of New Brunswick since it launched.


The Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of ABET accreditation stands in addition to the standard provincial accreditation.
