University of Fredericton congratulates faculty member Dr. Rocky Dwyer, who was recently invested as a Member of the Order of St. John during a ceremony held inside the Senate of Canada.

The honour recognizes decades of service, leadership and community impact.

Following the formal investiture, Dr. Dwyer and a select group of recipients were invited by J. Greg Peters, the Usher of the Black Rod, to his private chambers. There, Dr. Dwyer was granted the rare protocol privilege of holding the historic Black Rod.

“Being invested as a Member of the Order of St. John represents a humbling recognition of my lifelong commitment to public service and community well-being,” says Dr. Dwyer. “It signifies a profound dedication to a historic legacy of compassion, serving as an enduring reminder of our responsibility to lead by example and make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.”

Creating opportunity for community leaders

Service-minded leadership like that demonstrated by the St. John Ambulance is also something the University of Fredericton is proud to support.

UFred offers four Community Impact scholarships, including one scholarship dedicated to giving back to St. John Ambulance volunteers who are pursuing their MBA or EMBA studies. “By making their education more accessible, the scholarship enables these dedicated professionals to maximize their leadership capacity,” says Dr. Dwyer.

The St. John Ambulance Community Impact scholarship recognizes the value of volunteer service and helps create new opportunities for learners who are ready to keep growing as leaders. “The aim is to empower St. John Ambulance volunteers by helping them translate their dedication to community service into advanced corporate leadership skills,” says Dr. Dwyer.

Congratulations to Dr. Rocky Dwyer on the distinguished honour of being invested as a Member of the Order of St. John! On behalf of all of UFred, thank you for your continued contributions to St. John Ambulance and the University of Fredericton.
