International Field Study: The learning opportunity of a lifetime

One student described the International Field Study as “unmatched learning and a dose of fun.” Others called the experience “life changing,” “very rewarding” and “both professionally and personally fulfilling.” It’s the “gold standard for an MBA offering.” 

Reserved for MBA and EMBA students who have completed their foundational courses, our Global Capstone with IFS is a popular capstone option. The International Field Study is a five-day trip as part of 14-week Capstone project that integrates the knowledge learned throughout the program. It offers students a unique opportunity for global travel and in-person networking. 

What you’ll learn 

The International Field Study helps students develop a deeper understanding of the complexity of doing business in the global economy. You’ll apply concepts and theories to real-world business scenarios through this immersive experience.  

The program has well thought-out curation, including a structured, well-flowing agenda, engaging speakers from global organizations and rich discussion topics. You'll learn about global business practices, how to build multicultural, multigenerational teams and so much more.

Throughout this IFS, you’ll also get valuable input and feedback on your business model from industry experts and seasoned professionals. 

Your international business plan 

As part of a small team of 3-4 students, you’ll develop an international business plan for a newly manufactured product of your team’s choosing.  

Dive deep into market and competitive analysis. Build strategic plans for marketing, management and financial operations. And pull it all together in a final report and presentation to cap off the Capstone. 

Your final report will include: 

• Industry overview 

• Market Analysis and Competition 

• Marketing Plan and Marketing Mix 

• Management Plan 

• Manufacturing and Operations Plan 

• Financial Plan 

What is the cost of the International Field Study? 

In addition to course tuition, the International Field Study is $3,000. Students are responsible for their own travel costs and meals during the trip. We arrange a group rate at a nearby hotel (~$4,000) or you are welcome to stay at the accommodation of your choice. Some people rent houseboats or stay in hostels. It all depends on what kind of experience you are budgeting for. 

When is the International Field Study? 

The International Field Study takes place May 25–29, 2026. However, it is important to note you may not just take the 5-day trip. This international experience accompanies our Global Capstone, which runs April 27 - July 31. 

This immersive Capstone is designed for MBA and EMBA students at the University of Fredericton who have completed their foundational courses, even if you have not yet completed your specialty stream. This trip of a lifetime provides a global business experience that connects online learning with real-world international practice. 

How do I apply for the Global Capstone with IFS? 

You are able to register until the course begins each April. You’re encouraged to apply well in advance due to the popularity of the offering.
